Surviving the Music Industry

Apr 9, 2020

Mara Connor immediately knew that music was going to be her path when she started singing background vocals in her boyfriend's indie-rock band. One would have thought film was going to be her vocational destiny since both her parents are seasoned actors, directors, and producers. Mom and dad took notice that music was going to be the thing for Mara hence started her early education of The Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Fiona Apple, Fleetwood Mac, and others helped shape her lyrical prose. Taking a look at her debut, No Fun EP, it's clear that Mara has developed a new sound that pays homage to her tutors. We compare our writing styles in conversation and probably more stereotypically speaking how LA and Nashville write songs. Vulnerability, realism versus ambiguity, drawing people in or leaving a cloud of mystery as an artist or a songwriter are touched on as well.
